It's playoff time in high school hoops. Nothing like shooting four and five games a week in some of the darkest dungeons around.
But it's still fun to see the excitement and emotion during and after the games. Hopefully I'll be able to get some unique photos during the post season.
Shot the 2008 CHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Pepsi Center in Denver the last three days. It's always a challenge to shoot dozens of athletes from a paper's coverage area. With eight to ten matches going at the same time you are guaranteed to miss one or five kids.
This was the second year of shooting the tournament and I finally think I figured out how to really cover the event this time. I wasn't able to incorporate much of that into my coverage this year though. Learned that I should shoot from a new vantage point, take a few more chances with the action, make more time for the sideline features and talk with the sports desk earlier about when deadline is instead of making them sweat every night.

Here's to hoping that hours and weeks of compiling information and reworking thoughts and words, with the help of two fabulous people, will unlock the door to a fun and bright new future. There are tons of opportunities out there. I can't wait to have a better understanding to capitalize on just a few of those possibilities.
Now it's just a waiting game. When I hear back, I'm sure you will know about it.
The house won. It always does in the end, but it doesn't make it any better or easier to accept.
She's been a nothing of her namesake. She's been absolutely wonderment and joy. Why she's been dealt the worst hand possible in the at times cruel game of life, I don't have a clue. I'm just happy I was able to spend more time with her. I pray I get to have more of her and her magic in my life. The odds are with the house though.....
